About Us

The Office of Research and Program Evaluation (ORPE), within the Division of Data, Strategy, and Innovation, leverages data to evaluate programs and identify what works to improve student outcomes. The office generates new evidence and draws on existing research to inform policy, guide strategic decisions, meet mandated requirements, and strengthen programs and services across the District. It also oversees the review of external research and provides centralized guidance for district surveys, ensuring that research aligns with District priorities, protects students and staff, and minimizes burden on schools.

ORPE works closely with UCLA’s Los Angeles Education Research Institute (LAERI) and USC’s EdPolicy Hub, and sponsors a large portfolio of research studies through an extensive network of over 20 partner universities and research organizations nationwide.
